WELCOME TO FiA CONFERENCE 2024

The International Food Ingredients Asia Conference (FiAC) has been a pivotal event in the food science community since its inception in 2010. Initially themed “Emerging Issues and Technology Developments in Food and Ingredients,” the conference has grown to become a biennial tradition, attracting experts from around the world. Over the years, FiAC has explored various themes, such as “Future of Food Factors” in 2012, “Food for a Quality Life” in 2014, and “Food Innovations: ASEAN Economic Community Challenges” in 2016. Each conference has seen a diverse array of speakers and participants, contributing to the ongoing dialogue on food ingredients and their role in promoting health and sustainability. The most recent FiAC in 2022 continued this legacy with the theme “Advancing Food Ingredients to Promote Healthy Life and Sustainability.” Held in conjunction with Food Ingredients Asia, the event gathered over 200 participants and featured 14 distinguished speakers. The conference has consistently provided a platform for experts to discuss the latest scientific developments and innovations in food ingredients, reinforcing its importance in shaping the future of the food industry in Asia.

As we look forward to FiAC 2024, the conference’s relevance is underscored by the rapidly evolving global challenges in food safety, quality, and sustainability. With population growth, urbanization, and climate change exerting unprecedented pressures on our food systems, the stakes for public health and environmental well-being have never been higher. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that unsafe food is responsible for 600 million cases of foodborne diseases and 420,000 deaths worldwide each year. Meanwhile, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) highlights the paradox of food insecurity, where while many suffer from hunger, others face health issues related to overnutrition.

In response to these multifaceted challenges, the concept of One Health—emphasizing the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health—has gained prominence. To address these issues and anticipate future food dynamics, the South-east Asia Food and Agricultural Science and Technology (SEAFAST) Center-IPB University, supported by Informa Markets and the Asia Pacific Food Innovation Network (APAC FIN), will host the 8th FiAC in 2024. The event, themed “Toward One Health through Sustainable and Innovative Food Science and Technology,” will be held in collaboration with several partners, including the Department of Food Science and Technology-IPB, the Faculty of Medicine-IPB, the Department of Human Nutrition-IPB, and the Indonesian Association of Food Technologists (IAFT).

FiAC 2024 represents a critical platform for stakeholders, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to converge, share insights, and chart a course toward a healthier, more sustainable future. By fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovative solutions, the conference aims to catalyze meaningful action that transcends borders and disciplines. Together, we can forge a path toward a food system that not only nourishes our bodies but also nurtures our planet for generations to come.

OUTPUT

The output of the 8th FiA Conference of 2024 is especially to have well-informed, regulated, and monitored dissemination of food ingredients, and generally focusing on:

ACTIVITIES

This event, in conjunction with Food Ingredients Asia, will be held for 3 (three) days from 4–6 September 2024. The conference will emphasize current global trends and main issues in ‘Sustainable and Innovative Food Science and Technology’. The program will include plenary lectures and parallel technical paper presentations, focusing on: (i) Quality, Safety, and Sustainability and (ii) Nutrition and Health: Food as a significant Pillar in Achieving One Health. In addition to that, this event will also hold the discussion forum on i) The Asia Pacific Food Innovation Network and (ii) The Potentials and Prospects of the APAC Region Food Industry, Business, and Trade.

Scientists from academia, research centers, government, or industry, are encouraged to actively participate in this event. The official language of the conference is English. Additionally, special satellite events will be available, i.e.: the Indonesian Association of Food Technologist (IAFT) annual meeting, the Student Food Product Development Competition (FPDC), and a Halal Forum.
